Alex was going on vacation for a few months. He asked his brother to stay at his house to take care of the cat, and their elderly mother.
A few weeks into the vacation, Alex decided to call his brother to see how things were going.
"How's mother?"
Mother's fine."
"How's the cat?"
"The cat's dead."
"What? What do you mean the cat's dead?"
"He was playing on the roof, fell off, and died."
"Did you have to break the news like that, though?" Asked Alex. "Couldn't you have said" "the cat was playing on the roof, fell off, and he's hurt." Then later, you could have called, said he wasn't doing good. Then you could call and say that he died."
"I'm so sorry." Replied his brother. "I'll remember if this ever happens again."
A few weeks later, Alex called his brother to see how things were going.
"How's mother?"
"Mother was playing on the roof."
